Adam Young
Adam is a self-taught woodworker, metalworker, and visual artist. His visual artwork delves into his curiosity of the natural world, folklore, his fascination with history, and metaphorical storytelling. The visual components of his work come from imagination, personal experience or historical reference. The text in his work comes the black notebook he carries in his pocket. Words, phrases, and ideas are constantly churning in his mind. To capture them, they go in the notebook for later use. Sometimes the text will take lead for a visual composition of a painting, other times a visual is there that he will then lean on his book to find accompaniment for a painting. “Once a painting is started I don’t know where it will go, it a very organic and very fluid process. I like the unknowing element within each piece.” Originally form the lowlands of Louisiana, he is a longtime resident of Austin where he lives and works daily.
