A painter since his teenage years, Portuguese artist Luis Bivar began pursuing fine art professionally in the early 2000s while working as an art director. Informed by his impressive career in the design world, Bivar brings a painter’s hand and a sharp, curatorial eye to the unique art form of collaging. His dramatic yet ethereal overstories are blocked in with acrylic paint, and then populated with found collage foliage and creatures, creating dense, complex scenic worlds. His mixed media pieces walk the viewer through lush, imaginary forests, inviting them to lose themselves in his intricately detailed thickets of painted and decoupaged flora and fauna.
