Dave McClinton

Dave McClinton is an emerging artist based in Austin, Texas who began exhibiting his personal work in 2015. His work as a graphic designer has been to communicate quickly and efficiently and he believes that economy of message can be applied to art. Dave combines his love of photography, art and graphic design to create works that speak to the viewer by communicating aspects of Black Culture. Providing imagery and space for stories about the strengths and trials of the African-American community is a big part of McClinton’s motivation.

McClinton works in two ongoing series. The first are portraits of Black life, portrayed by invented but emblematic figures, pieced together from photos of friends, family, and sometimes his own visage. The second are imagined landscapes, constructed from photos of crumpled paper, that serve as a deep metaphorical well for the complex emotional and psychological experiences of his community.
